At McCordic Law & Mediation, we believe the best teams aren't necessarily built by waiting until there's an empty chair to start looking for someone to fill it.
We're always thinking about how our firm can grow, improve and better serve our clients. Sometimes that means adding another lawyer. Sometimes it's an articling student, paralegal, legal assistant, administrative professional — or someone with a skill set we didn't realize we needed until they came along.
That's why you may not see a job posting from us.
It doesn't mean we're not interested.

What We're Looking For
We care about qualifications and experience, of course.
But we care just as much about the person behind them.
We're looking for people who are smart, capable and willing to learn. People who take responsibility for their work, communicate when they need help and look for solutions when something isn't working.
We value people who are:
Kind, without being pushovers.
Our clients are often going through some of the hardest chapters of their lives. Compassion matters. So do boundaries, good judgment and practical advice.
Good humans and good teammates.
We work collaboratively. We help each other. We treat our coworkers, clients, opposing parties and other professionals with respect — even when things are difficult.
Practical problem-solvers.
The law matters, but so does what actually works. We appreciate people who can see the bigger picture, think creatively and help move a problem toward a solution.
Comfortable taking ownership.
We don't expect anyone to know everything. We do expect people to care about the quality of their work, ask questions, follow through and take responsibility when something needs attention.
Open to doing things differently.
We respect the traditions of the profession without assuming that “this is how law firms have always done it” is a particularly compelling reason to keep doing something.
Interested in building something.
McCordic Law & Mediation continues to evolve. We're interested in people who see possibilities — for themselves, for the firm and for how legal services can be delivered.
What We're Not Looking For
Culture matters here.
We're probably not the right firm for someone who believes there is only one way to be successful in the practice of law, or that everyone should approach their career, workload and priorities in exactly the same way.
Some people want to build large practices and work long hours. Others want a different balance. We have room for ambition — and we also recognize that ambition can look different from one person to the next.
What matters to us is that you take responsibility for your work, provide excellent service to your clients and contribute positively to the team.
We're also not interested in unnecessary ego, office politics or the idea that someone's job title determines whether their contribution matters.
We take our work seriously.
We just don't believe we need to take ourselves quite so seriously all the time.
Our clients deserve excellent legal work. Our team deserves a workplace where talented people can build careers that work for them.
We believe both things can be true.
A Different Kind of Law Firm
McCordic Law & Mediation was created around a fairly simple idea:
People usually come to lawyers when something important is happening in their lives. They deserve to be treated like people while they're here.
That philosophy applies to our team, too.
We want to build a firm where talented people can do meaningful work, continue developing professionally, have ideas, make mistakes and learn from them, laugh occasionally, support one another — and build a career that leaves room for whatever matters to them outside the office.
We're not perfect at it.
But we're committed to it.
